How To Keep A Job Even If Your Flighty
Content
What if you could keep a job even if you think you’re flighty? It really sucked feeling like I couldn’t keep a job. I used to feel flighty and thought those around me thought I was flighty too. Why couldn’t I just stick with a job. I changed jobs and career paths so many times, it was exhausting. I envied those who I thought knew what they wanted to do and went and did it. All I knew was that I needed to make money.
It wasn’t until I had a coach that I learned why I couldn’t keep a job. I was so relieved when I learned I wasn’t flighty. I was just living a money story. I was a Money Chaser, someone who just wanted more money. I chased after all the jobs that I thought would get me more money. Even if I had a good job that paid well, I had to continue living the story of being a Money Chaser, because that’s all I knew.
When I learned that I could write a new money story, life began to change. I knew that I wanted to have a job where I could be creative. I wanted to be an artist, but I had many stories that made me think it would be impossible to be a paid artist. Getting clear on that and then having an opportunity come along, of being a coach, I knew that if I could change my money story, I could have the perfect job. The one that I loved doing every single day. Not the one where I was constantly flighty and looking for the next job.
It didn’t happen overnight. As I was writing a new money story, I needed a job to cover my expenses while I went through coach training and worked on my art on the side. I was so resistant to getting that job. I finally knew what I wanted to do, so why go get a job that I knew I wasn’t going to stay at? Because It was the job that supported me while I was pursuing my dream jobs of being an artist and a coach.
While I was resisting getting a job, I actually accepted one that I didn’t really want. When I finally let go of the resistance, the night before I was supposed to start that job, another one just fell in my lap. The job at the gym was everything I was asking for in terms of a job. I wanted flexibility, certain hours, and the ability to take off when I needed to. While I was at the gym I looked at my budget. I needed to know how much money I needed to have in order to step into the jobs I was working towards. Knowing that number, I knew I needed to work at the gym for at least 9 months. During that time I also asked my husband for support on our joint budget, and he agreed to pay all of our basic needs. I also had the mindset that I knew this wasn’t my forever job and it wasn’t because I was flighty. It was because I knew where I wanted to go and what I really wanted my job to be.
I worked at the gym for 5 months. Because I had been writing a new money story, money flowed to me even faster than I was anticipating. It didn’t take me 9 months to manifest what I needed in order to go all in on coaching and doing my art. My job at the gym was fun and easy. It gave me the knowledge that I could keep a job as I was working towards my dream jobs. When it was time to put in my 2 week notice, I was a little sad. I really enjoyed the gym and the people there. It was the bridge I needed to get to where I wanted to go. I wasn’t flighty anymore, I had a destination I was working towards and it was finally time to go do it. Now that I know I can keep a job and love it, I’m no longer flighty. I am more committed than ever to doing both of the jobs I love, being a coach and an artist.
