How To Fix Your Life
Content
Do you want to “fix” your life? Maybe it feels broken or you feel broken. Maybe just the outside world has led you to believe that. No matter why you want to fix your life, in this post you are going to learn how to fix your life once and for all and it might not be how you think you would fix your life.
#1 way to fix your life = STOP thinking your life is broken.
Maybe you aren’t driving the car you want, or living in the body you want. Maybe you want a better job or for money to just be a little bit easier. Maybe you want more friends or better relationships with your family. Or maybe you want to be in the romantic relationship of your dreams, but none of it is working out.
So, you decide there is something “wrong” that needs to be “fixed”. Usually that thing you decide needs fixing in order to fix your life is you. You decided you need fixing. So, you start down the path to be fixed.
The problem with this is that you’re not a car. When the engine breaks in a car, it needs to be fixed. There is a procedure and a mechanic who knows what to do to fix it. You do it, or if you’re like most of us you take it to the people who know how to fix it and in a few days your car is fixed.
Cars aren’t capable of growing. A Ford Prius is never going to grow into a Lincon Navigator. They are what they are when they are built. When they break, you fix them, but they are incapable of becoming something else.
You are not a car. You are a human. So, you cannot be fixed like a car. Obviously, you know you are not a car, but when it comes to changing things in your life, you have treated yourself like a car. This is wrong, let me fix it. That is wrong, let me fix it.
You buy the books to fix yourself. You subscribe to podcasts to fix yourself. You pay thousands to attend weekend workshops in the hopes that you will fix yourself, so you can fix your life. If it hasn’t worked, let yourself off the hook because “fixing” yourself doesn’t work.
You have to grow yourself in order to see real change in your life.
Instead of asking, “What do I need to fix about my life?”
Ask yourself, “What do I want to experience differently in my life?”
When you know the answer to, “What do I want to experience differently in my life?” You can start to grow into the person who has that life, rather than trying to fix yourself into that experience.
Growing means:
You start where you are
You know you are whole right now, but want to experience more
You focus on becoming rather than fixing
You allow yourself more of the human experience
You get results and create a different life
Chona, an Enchanted Life U student, had the habit of trying to fix her life. These are her words about growing rather than fixing herself, “I think the biggest way I've grown/changed is that I keep showing up. I keep asking questions even when I feel nervous or too vulnerable. In the past, I might have jumped ship by now and "tried" something else because I didn't feel like I was fixed. But, I'm showing up. I'm doing the work. I'm challenging old thoughts and stories. I'm not trying to fix things. Rather, I'm trying to understand and write and tell a new story. I'm able to stop an old thought and redirect my energy. And if that's not so easy at the moment, I give myself grace and feel the feelings. I keep reminding myself that this doesn't happen overnight and I'm committed for five years!”
