I Used to Feel Like Money Was Hard
Content
There was a time when I thought money was hard. It didn’t feel good, it was so uncomfortable, and I never wanted to look at my accounts. When I wanted to buy something, I always had this overwhelming sense of dread. I didn’t know what was in my bank account and I just could not bring myself to look at it. I was always so afraid that the numbers in my accounts would be really small or in the negatives. So I wouldn’t allow myself to look at my bank account and I would spend money anyway. Instead of checking in on my accounts, I would find other things to fill up that space like hours of social media scrolling, window shopping for new makeup, or looking for new gig jobs. In the end, my account would usually go into the red or I’d be out of money when my next bill came, and I’d feel totally let down. I’d think to myself, “Why is money so hard? Why can’t it just feel good?” I just felt like money was hard and uncomfortable and I wasn’t getting it, and I didn’t know how to start.
If you’re feeling this way about money, you are not alone. It is really frustrating, scary, and you probably feel anxious about money. I really get it, I felt that way about money for many years.
Money can feel hard until you learn how to do it right. It feels hard to you right now because you've never learned how to handle or use it. You were never given the tools to learn how to handle it or work with it in a way that felt good for you. It’s scary to look in your accounts because you don’t understand why there's never enough or why you’re always overdrawn. You've never been given the opportunity to learn what things mean, how to hold on to money, or what to do with it when you get it. That not knowing is what is going to make money feel hard and uncomfortable, and that's ok and it's not your fault.
You’ve never been taught how to keep track of what money was going in or out of your accounts, or how to balance what you were spending on clothes vs. groceries, or how to get clear about how much money you need to be making per month, or how to set aside savings for future things that you want.
This was me too, and it all changed because I had to learn how to handle money. How to check my bank account, how to keep track of what was going in and out, how to balance my spending, how to get clear about what my income needed to be each month, and how to start a savings account for future purchases. Now that I learned how to handle money, I am totally at ease when I check my accounts, I feel good and comfortable about money, money feels easy to me, and I always have more than enough.
